UAE extends residence visa until end of year

The UAE Cabinet extend the residence visa that expired in early March until the end of December 2020.

More than 85% of the UAE population are expatriates. The Cabinet has also announced a series of measures to spare the economic impact of the pandemic on the foreign residents.

Foreign investors and expats whose UAE residency visas, entry permits and Emirates IDs expired on 1st March 2020 shall be renewed automatically until the end of the year without any additional fees. Any financial irregularities incurred under the current conditions shall also be waived.

Here are some points about the scheme that clarifies how the extension works:
  1. The residency visas shall be extended automatically. Expats don't have to visit the government office to renew the documents.
  2. During this time, the Emirates IDs that expired in early March are considered valid for bank and government services and other official transactions until the end of 2020.
  3. The visa will also extended for expats currently outside the UAE.
  4. Any financial irregularities incurred under the current conditions shall also be waived.

Under the current circumstances, the UAE Cabinet introduced these measures to protect people’s health and safety and, in the meantime, to reduce the negative effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on all sectors in the country.
